Tips and Tricks

I just wanted to share some tips that help me speed up my progress.

Some courses on Studycom offer placement tests so you can skip lessons you already know, I'll post the link below.
I purposely chose and stacked courses closely related, for example, I took International Business and Globalization Management, and when I start Global Marketing next week the course is already 70% done because the lessons overlap with the other courses.
For upper-division courses, I choose courses with the less amount of assignments and lessons. For example, all my upper finance courses have 2-3 assignments on Study,com, but zero assignments on Straighter Line. Of course, if you're a terrible exam taker, you might like having assignments more.

Also, another tip I forgot to add

Create your own custom course to help with assignments. First, review your assignments before starting your lessons because as you do your lessons you may find helpful information pertaining to your assignment.

Click the save button on the lesson and add it to your custom course. For example, I'm starting a custom course to help with my Global Marketing case study, I already added two lessons to it. Some assignments already have links to helpful lessons, but it doesn't hurt to add more, especially for longer essays. You can also use the custom course you built for future related courses.

Hi, Trisha.

I have never taken a Straighterline course. I have an option to take that one on "government" (one of my mandatory classes) and wondering what the flow is...is the platform easy to follow and how are the tests on that platform? Like with everything new, a bit nervous. Would love your feedback!

Hello Ketlin,

Sorry for the late response. I haven't taken any straighterline courses yet, but I have an upcoming managerial course with them soon. Its hard to say which to choose without knowing the exact course. Between StraighterLine or Sophia, I would take the one without the assignments simply for faster completion (depending on the length of the assignment).

But a lot of people on Reddit and Degree Forum mention how easy Sophia is in terms of platform and workload. Both quizzes and midterms are open books. Straigthterline final exam is proctor, and Sophia's final exam is open book. I hope that helps you make a decision, again sorry for the late response.

Hello Ketlin,

One of the biggest differences with StraighterLine is that there are no videos. The lessons are in an e-book which you must study and will be tested on in the quizzes. You can read more about SraighterLine and how it works in the Provider Info tab in MyDegree.
