I was taking a final exam on the second to last day before the class was due, and using a relatively new laptop purchased just for JB Scholars work only. This computer pretty much only gets turned on every 8 weeks when it comes time to take an exam. In the middle of the exam, I received a message that the PCI software used to take the proctored exam had experienced some sort of issue and was about to close, and that I had 30 seconds to save my work before it closed. There is no visible save button anywhere in the exam, and I was frantically searching for a way to save or prevent it from closing, to no avail.
As a side note, despite closing all windows and exiting all programs before starting the exam, while in the middle of taking the exam, things like Skype login popups, Virus Protection expiration popups, and OneDrive sign-in popups kept trying to launch which I think were what caused the software to force close. I restarted the computer and attempted to clear all the issues that I thought could be causing the popups, including system updates to all programs, and paying for a subscription for McAfee to prevent that error message from popping up again.
When I tried to take the exam again, it did not allow me to take the exam because it did not meet the requirement that there has to be three days of a window between taking exams. Since I only had one day left I was fit to be tied and was certain I was going to fail the course because of this issue. I tell you all this to let you know that if you keep your exam code written down, you can relaunch the PCI and enter the exam code and resume where you left off with however many minutes are remaining from the countdown from when you started. I wasted so much time doing updates and purchasing McAffee that I had less than an hour left when I was finally able to get back in. Hopefully this information will help someone else that experiences this problem, and I know now not to take an exam for the first time so close to the end of the semester.
